[Dec 6th] UTAMA Christmas Party

Hey everyone!

Have exams got you feeling down? Well, come out to our Christmas party to foster your holiday spirit! (Abyan, 2019)

Why don't you replace that calculus with KFC? (Michael, 2019)

The Christmas party will be on Friday, Dec 6, from 6pm to 9pm, at the usual room, BL313. Because we will be providing food and drinks, there will be an entrance fee of $5, regardless of membership. Our plan is to have a (weeb-ish) Christmas party with KFC and Christmas cake.

There will be many festive events such as White Elephant gift exchange, gingerbread cookie decorating, ornament making and board games. For those unfamiliar with White Elephant, here is an informative website on how the rules work: https://www.whiteelephantrules.com
The gift for White Elephant must be $10-$15, and cannot be food or manga/books.

As well, we encourage everyone to come out in Christmas sweaters or attire. We'll be giving out a prize to the best dressed.

Please fill out this google form if you are coming:
https://forms.gle/PSvQ8rVxFSSgiTE99
Its important you do the google form by Friday morning of the event so we know how much food to order!

[Nov 15] UTAMA Karaoke and Board Game Night

Hey everyone!
I hope everyone is enjoying their reading week~

As some of you know, we had a karaoke event in September, and a board game event in October. So now, us genius execs came up with the brilliant idea of, "why not both?"
So that means our next upcoming event will be karaoke AND boardgames on Friday, November 15th! It will run the usual time of 6pm-9pm and the location is L1030 at Rotman (RT).

How it will work is that we'll have karaoke running on the big screen, and have board games on the side if anyone wants to play while waiting for their song. Feel free to bring your own boardgames as well, as long as you don't mind others using them. As well, snacks will be provided :)

Admission to the event is free as long as you have a membership. If you don't have a membership, you can purchase one during office hours or at the event. Otherwise, it will be a fee of $2 for a one time entrance.

So take a break from assignments and studying, and come de-stress with us next Friday night. I hope you guys can make it~

[Aug 2] Kyoto Animation Fundraiser: Liz and the Bluebird Screening

In light of the recent tragedy that has befallen Kyoto Animation, this past week, UTAMA is holding a fundraiser special screening of one of their recent works, Liz and the Blue Bird, courtesy of Eleven Arts, on Friday, August 2, in Room 2117 of Sidney Smith Hall, from 3pm to 6pm.

Donations at the event are highly encouraged, but the screening itself is free for everyone. There will be a short introductory panel in the beginning, detailing a brief history of Kyoto Animation and their works (from 3pm-3:30pm), followed by the screening (3:30pm-5:30pm), and finishing off with a silent auction for some special KyoAni items (the auction will be held throughout the event, with the winners announced after the film). All proceeds from the donations and the auction will go towards the fundraising efforts for helping the staff and their families who were greatly affected by the fire.

More importantly, this event is meant to celebrate a studio that is one of the most hopeful, inspiring, and admirable, both in terms of their multitude of affecting works and their role in the industry as a positive beacon of change. As such, commemorating a work that, among many others, positively impacted countless lives, is important, profoundly so in these trying times.

Hope to see you guys there.

1. Hyouka "Meibamen Sengashu Gekan" Art Book- Min. bid $150 (Buyout @ $400)

[May 10] Detective Pikachu Screening

Hi everyone!
Another summer event we had previously announced was going as a group to go watch the new Detective Pikachu movie. We are planning to go see the 7:00pm screening on May 10, opening day, at the Yonge-Dundas Cineplex.
As Gilbert suggested, we encourage you guys to wear a detective hat, or Pikachu attire, or even better - both!

As for ticketing, please confirm whether you are going via the event page. Since the tickets are pre-reserved seating, we will be purchasing the tickets for you guys to ensure that everyone is seated together. We hope to buy tickets soon before they sell out, so the deadline to let us know will be this Sunday night (April 21). For any others who confirm past the deadline, we can still arrange tickets for you guys, but, it may mean sitting separate from the original group.

Thanks and we hope to see you guys there!

[May 5] UTAMA High Park Hanami

Hey guys! (◕▽◕✿)
I hope everyone is surviving exam season~
So our first summer event lined up will be a picnic at High Park to go see the cherry blossoms. We plan to go on Sunday, May 5, from 12-4. Hopefully everyone will be done exams by then!

The event will be a potluck so please bring any sort of food or drinks to share with everyone else. We will provide the blankets, plates, cups, napkins, and cutlery, so you guys don't need to worry about that. But, you are always more than welcome to bring your own blankets or chairs. Also, feel free to bring some board games or sport equipments as well.

We will provide the exact location closer to the date.
Be mindful though that the date may change depending on peak bloom. It is said to bloom sometime during late April to early May, so we may need to push it to a later date if it is delayed. We will keep you guys updated~

Thanks and we hope to see everyone there!!

[Mar 1] UTAMA "February" General Meeting

Hello everybody!

It's time for UTAMA's monthly GM for February... Except it's on March 1st. As usual, the event will take place from 18:10 to 21:00 in room 313 in the Claude T. Bissell building.

For this month, the entire assortment of activities will be based on making connections between seemingly unrelated concepts. For our icebreaker, in a bit of a twist from an earlier game you will all be assigned characters and have to find your groups based on some shared trait; your characters are known and you have to find the rest of the group with matching traits.

Afterwards we will move on to our next game: Anime Connect where there will be 4 images to be shown one at a time and you have to guess the common idea between said images. Making a correct guess with less images shown will award you more points. After cutting for our food break, we will then proceed to our final game of the night, Anime Sequences. Similar to Connect there will be 4 images shown but this time, you have to guess the 4th image in a sequence rather than guess the common idea (but you'll still need to figure out the common idea to be able to figure out what the 4th image might be).

As usual, doors will open at 17:45 for anyone who wants to come by early on with the event itself beginning at 18:10 barring any last minute stragglers at the front door.
