I hope everyone's online semester hasn't been too bad.

I'm here to announce that we'll be holding our second Zoom GM of the year this Saturday, November 28th at 7pm EST!  We'll be playing some anime themed games together, including our debating game from last year, over a Zoom call!  Like before, we'll be splitting into breakout rooms for games, so hopefully you can get to know some other anime/manga fans at U of T. [Sep 18] UTAMA's First Online GM+Other Updates

Hey everyone!

I hope y'all had a good summer and a good start to this unusual semester.

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, in-person events will be unlikely for this semester, at least. We'll be trying our hand at an online GM a week from now, on Friday the 18th at 6pm EST. Come join us to meet some other weebs and play some anime-themed games together! The GM will be on Zoom and people will be split into smaller groups using the breakout rooms function to play games. We'll post the Zoom link before the event.

For this semester, we won't be charging membership fees, but you can still sign up for a free semesterly membership through this form: https://forms.gle/rAsDap48X6STkNWV7

This'll add you to our mailing list, grant you the member role on Discord and give you the opportunity to vote in elections and run for executive positions.

Lastly, we will be doing elections later this month! The positions up for grabs are:

-1 Vice President-Internal

-1 Lower Year Rep(restricted to first-years)

In order to run for a position, you must first have signed up to be a UTAMA member, and then have submitted a 1-minute election speech to the UTAMA email (utama.website@gmail.com). Submissions will open after the GM on the 18th and will stay open until September 25th at 11:59 PM.

[Apr 6] UTAMA's FINAL General Meeting

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing okay. As you know, the elections post is up, so if you haven’t voted yet, please do so before Sunday at midnight.

As you all know, the university has prohibited all in person gathering but that doesn't mean we can't have a final GM! The execs came up with the idea to hold the last GM online. We wanted to announce next years exec team live so we decided to hold a Zoom meeting. It's scheduled for Monday night, 6pm, and every member is invited to attend. Details of how to access the Zoom meeting will be down below.

Along with the announcement of the new exec team, we will also be having farewell speeches from the current execs. As you may know, most of the execs are graduating this year, so we wanted to take the opportunity to say our goodbyes. We will also be taking a virtual photo in the end. It'll be really fun, so I hope you all can attend. 

To access Zoom, you don’t need an account, but you do need to download the software. (It only takes a minute or two). After it is downloaded, you will be asked for the meeting ID and password. You can either input it manually or just click the URL. We made two Zoom meetings, one for 6pm and one for 7pm, because Zoom only allows us to make one hour meetings unless you pay for a membership. ID, passwords, and links will be given 30 minutes before the meeting

UTAMA Elections!

Hello Everyone!

The time has come for the UTAMA elections! Everone who currently has a membership will be sent an email to vote for our executives for the upcoming year. On the form there will be links to videos where you will be able to watch each candidate's speech before voting.

You can also choose to spoil your vote if you do not like any of the available candidates.YOU CANNOT VOTE FOR THE SAME PERSON FOR MORE THAN ONE ROLE. IF YOU DO, BOTH OF YOUR VOTES WILL BE CONSIDERED AS SPOILED!

Everyone will have until midnight on Sunday to vote!

[Feb 28] UTAMA Maid (and Butler) Cafe

 UTAMA's very own Maid (and butler) cafe is set for Friday, Feb 28th at 6:10pm-8:10pm at the usual GM location, BL313 (Claude T Bissel). Doors will open at 6 pm! Be sure to come out in support of UTAMA's own lovely maid and butlers! You never know who you might see serving tea at your table

Unlike the previous years where a purchase of tickets is required for entry, our execs have decided to make 2020's maid cafe free of charge for our members! Non-members are definitely welcomed in to our cafe with tickets available for purchase at the door for $2. There will be interactive games at each cozy table, polaroid photo sessions, dance performances prepared by our hard working maids and butlers, as well as some  refreshments served to you!

[Feb 14] UTAMA Intro Cosplay Workshop!

Hello UTAMA! I'll be hosting a super chill introductory cosplay workshop that anyone of any level can attend! It's primarily aimed at beginners interested in trying cosplay, but thanks to our guest speakers Jennifer Li (@strawberrycolacosplay) and Rae Luria (@luirae), even advanced cosplayers can get some solid insight!

We'll be covering costumes, budgeting, foam work (armor), and much more (and we'll also have a bunch of snacks)! Excited to see you there!

[Feb 7] Tamako Love Story Screening

Hey everyone!  It's the month of love, so what better way to be thematic than with a cute anime movie!

UTAMA will be holding a screening of Tamako Love Story this coming Friday, February 7, 6-8 pm, in room RTL 1030 of the Rotman building.  Although it is a sequel to the 2013 anime Tamako Market, you do not need to have seen it to enjoy this movie.  Come by if you're interested and want to watch me cry over my favorite movie of all time!

[Jan 31] UTAMA January General Meeting

Hello everybody!

 

Apologies for the late event post, we had some room booking issues to sort out but with that now out of the way, hope everyone has had a good start to their semester and is ready for some UTAMA fun in the new year!

 

We're going to be playing some games of Bad Synopsis, Charades and UTAMA will be hosting an awards ceremony for our club's best picks of the decade! (As chosen by you guys)

 

As usual, doors to the event will open at 5:45 for anyone who wants to come by early and hang out. The event will begin at 6:10 PM sharp so don't be late! The event will take place in the Rotman Basement RT LL1030

[Jan 25] UTAMA x UTFOLD Cake Folding + Yumeiro Patisserie Screening

Hello UTAMA! This upcoming Friday we will be joined by non other than our lovely clubhouse roommate UTFOLD (Fly with Origami, Learn to Dream) in a joint event of Anime x Origami 👏👏🎁🎁! 

Come out to a sweet, savory and artistic evening as we will be folding cakeboxes so you’ll be able to enjoy your cakes on a more appetizing flavor! And what better anime to screen than the sweet cakey Yumeiro Pattisiere! Come out to review the 2009 classic as you follow Ichigo on her journey to achieving her Pattisiere dream!

[Jan 16] UTAMA Tenki no Ko Outing

Hey everyone,

 We're back at it again with the movie outings. This time around we will be going to see the new Makoto Shinkai film Tenki no Ko (Weathering With You).

 There is different show times for Wednesday and Thursday, but the one we (at least I will be going to) is the 10PM showing. The exact date, time, and location is: Thursday January 16, 2020 10:00PM EST at the Yonge-Dundas CIneplex theater.

 Unfortunately the movie has long been sold out. However, if you purchased a ticket and plan to go to this screening, we will most likely be meeting up beforehand and going to the theater from the club room (You can also meet us at the theater). Come join us and we can experience the new film together!

[Jan 10] UTAMA Meeting + Haikyuu Screening

Hope that everyone got to recharge over the winter break, and ready to start 2020 with UTAMA! Now we have a fresh new year ahead of us, what better way to start it off with another UTAMA family meeting?  Our very first meeting of 2020 year is happening this Friday, Jan 10th at [Rotman 1130], doors will be opening at 5:30 pm and the event will officially run from 6:00 to 9:00 pm!

But do you know what else makes Jan 10th the big day that it is? 

(Screams) HAIKYUU SEASON 4 ☆ *･゜ﾟ･*:.｡..｡.:*･'(*ﾟ▽ﾟ*)'･*:.｡. .｡.:*･゜ﾟ･*☆

Join us to celebrate the comeback of the long awaited sport anime masterpiece, as we screen the first episode of Haikyuu Season 4 that airs on Jan 10th of 2020! As for Haikyuu-curious members or members who haven't caught up with Season 3, no worries, we're also planning on watching the Season 3 recap movie Battle of Concepts! 

P.S. However if you’re expecting the line of “light refreshments and drinks will be provided” --- sorry but there’s a new saying of the year that goes:

“We ain’t providing refreshments this time”
