[Sep 19] (CANCELLED) UTAMA Welcome Picnic

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

Hi everyone,

We apologize for the frequent updates, but after talking with the relevant bodies in the U of T administration, we will have to unfortunately cancel the Picnic event originally planned for this Sunday. Additionally, we still do not have any word on when we can proceed with in-person events on campus, but we can assure you that we will communicate any important developments as soon as possible.

I and the UTAMA Exec team deeply apologize for the announcement yesterday and any trouble this may have caused you. I know this isn't the same, but we will be holding an online event on Sunday to compensate for the event, and we will communicate details about it as soon as possible. begun and what better way to meet your fellow club members than with some fun social events!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Original Post:

Hey everyone! The school year has begun. We will be hosting a welcome picnic this Sunday, September 19th from 11:00am to 2:00pm (estimated time) in the Victoria College Quad with food and drinks sponsored by Fantuan! Proof of vaccination is required and the sign up sheet will be posted below. The form will close on Thursday and there is a 90 person limit cap so sign up asap! Also try to bring a towel or blanket if you can~ Hope to see you guys there! In other news, UTAMA will be at the in-person club fair on Friday, September 24th. For anyone who wants to learn more about the club and what we do, please say hi to us there! (location and time TBD). :tada: Sign up for the picnic with this form: https://forms.gle/YvUMcnJzuFGGwMdw8

UPDATE: We will be verifying proof of vaccination through two ways: 1. Ucheck + Tcard / government ID (health card, drivers license, or photo ID card) (Easier for current students) 2. 2nd dose vax receipt + government ID (health card, drivers license, or photo ID card) (Community members/alumni) If you cannot provide proof through any of these two methods at the event, you will not be allowed to attend. Due to the large amount of people attending we hope everyone understands. Of course, we also recommend masks when not eating and practicing proper social distancing. As well, due to provincial gathering restrictions we will also be capping the event at 90 people. Currently there are ~80 people signed up so anyone else who wants to join/eat at the picnic should sign up ASAP. If you find you cannot attend, please let us know so we can give your spot to someone else. Thanks everyone! As a final note, if you have a towel or blanket for the picnic please bring it. Hope we can all have a fun and safe time at our first event!

Pride Month!

Hello UTAMA!

As many may now know we have reached the nearly midway point of 2021 (Crazy right). So that means its *checks watch* JUNE. Around the world June has been celebrated as Pride month. This is in commemoration of the Stonewall riots in 1969, where pride parades have been held almost every year since during the month of June.

So seeing that it is Pride month and we are actually an anime club, we have decided to run weekly LGBTQ+ anime groupwatches on our discord server (https://discord.com/invite/Bemngwa). Every Sunday in June at 7pm, we will show 4-5 episodes of a selected series and at the end, gather all the series we didn’t watch and share them with all of you. That way no one’s selections are missed out and more niche series can spread to broader audiences.

In addition on June 9th and 23rd we will show an LGBTQ+  movie; submitted by one of you!

Our exec team will be selecting each series, as such anime that contains highly sensitive themes such as sexual assault will not be selected to maintain this event's inclusivity.

How are we doing this?

Below is a form where you can submit a series of your choice, and an optional explanation as to why you’ve chosen it. Execs are also encouraged to submit responses. Each week a new series will be chosen but don’t worry we will keep track of them all. The form will close after the final groupwatch to allow us to create a masterlist for all of you.

Although the form only allows one submission at a time we encourage you to submit as many times as you'd like

https://forms.gle/UmKuiCSDz34D8aRDA

When are we doing this?

For specific dates we have June 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th at 7PM for series and June 9th and 23rd for films.

Some important rules before submitting:

Because this is an inclusive community we have zero tolerance for any form of harassment, homo/transphobia, and discriminatory language. If any exec witnesses any of the above occurring it will result in an immediate ban from the group.

Big thanks to Mik Tampold for making this awesome graphic!

Maybe you just want to sing along to Hand in Hand for the 20th time?

Well, on Saturday, June 5th (one week from now), UTAMA will be hosting a groupwatch for the 2021 Hatsune Miku Expo Online! We will be watching together for the Concert 1 timeslot, from 9 PM to 1 AM EDT.
